Disc/frisbee golf gaining exposure through video games
Disc golf has came a long way since its creation. It was still a virtually unknown or under ground sport even in the early 90's when I first started playing. My friends and I could play a whole 18 hole round without ever seeing another person on the course. Now the courses stay packed all day every day. Disc golf seems to have caught on like wildfire within the last 10 years or so thanks to websites, blogs, tv appearances and more recently video games. The first video game version I remember seeing was the Mini Clip computer game. It was simple and you didn't have much control over the disc, but it cleared the path for the newer more interactive games we have today. Nintendo Wii included a better version of disc golf in a video game with Wii Sports Resort. Then Nintendo DS released Original Frisbee Disc Sports Ultimate and Golf. Both of which still had room for improvement. Then last year Tiger Woods PGA tour 2010 came out and featured disc golf as a bonus game for the Nintendo Wii version, and it remains in my opinion the best thus far. Although this years Tiger Woods PGA tour 11 on Wii is offering some new improvements to look forward too such as online play and a pro difficulty setting. There have even been a few other PC disc golf games released that I have not had the pleasure of trying out yet, and now there are 2 more games slated to hit the market in the near future. One of them is another Wii game coming soon called Zoo Disc Golf, but I have heard it is not too good. The ones I am most excited about is one called Sports Champions for the soon to be released Playstation Move and the Xbox 360 Kinect is releasing a game featuring the sport as well. With all of this extra exposure disc golf is only going to continue to explode in popularity in the coming years, and who knows where it will go from there.
